Pakistan Shia Ulema Council Chief: Iqbal Lahori Expressed Devotion to Hazrat Zahra Through Poetry

Islamabad — Hojatoleslam Sajid Ali Naqvi, head of the Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan, has described the life and conduct of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) as a valuable model for preserving the dignity and rights of women and promoting moral values in society.

Hawzah News Agency, Naqvi issued a message on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of the daughter of the Prophet of Islam, stating that the lofty personality of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) — from every perspective — is the finest model and an ideal figure for women worldwide in her capacity as a daughter, wife, and mother. Her character, conduct, and teachings are a guiding light for women in every era, he said.

He added that among the well-known titles of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) are Zahra, Batul, Sayyidat al-Nisa, Tahira, Adhra, Muhadditha, Mu'azzama, and Umm Abiha. As the daughter of the Prophet of Islam, her pure essence is a focal point of devotion and respect for Muslims, and through her pure conduct and character, she will remain an unmatched model for all women of the world until the Day of Resurrection.

Citing the poetry of Allama Muhammad Iqbal Lahori, the head of Pakistan's Shia Ulema Council emphasized the poet's deep love and devotion to Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her). Iqbal wrote in praise of her greatness and status:

"The harvest of the field of submission is Batul (peace be upon her),
The perfect model for all mothers is Batul (peace be upon her)."

(Meaning: Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) is the fruit and harvest of the field of submission and contentment, and a perfect model for all mothers.)

Naqvi continued that Allama Iqbal was so enamored with the greatness of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) that he offered her the most boundless expressions of devotion in his words. In his poetry, he considers the defense of the true Sharia and the commands of the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) to be his duty, and through this, he expresses his love for the Lady of the Worlds:

"The thread of the true faith is a chain upon my feet,
It is the guardianship of the commands of the Noble Mustafa.
Were it not so, I would have circled around the dust of her shrine,
And scattered my prostrations upon her soil."

(He says: "My bond with the true faith is a chain upon my neck, and my duty is to guard the commands of the Prophet (peace be upon him); otherwise, I would have circumambulated the dust of her rank and scattered my prostrations upon the soil of that shrine.")

Allama Iqbal also says in describing her lofty station:

"The tears of Gabriel were gathered from the earth,
And sprinkled like dew upon the highest throne."

In his message, Naqvi addressed the intellectual and social challenges facing women today, noting that women are currently grappling with intellectual confusion and, under the guise of progress and modernity, face issues of exploitation in various societies — particularly in Western societies. In such circumstances, the character and conduct of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) provide important guiding principles for women so they may remain protected from intellectual deviation, exploitation, and moral decline.

Regarding women's freedom, different societies have established principles and boundaries, but in his view, the concept of freedom must be intertwined with the observance of moral values, legal standards, and the preservation of human dignity. Preserving the honor and sanctity of women and promoting moral values in society are of fundamental importance.

Muslim women must strive to preserve their rights, dignity, modesty, and social role by following the example of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her). Her upbringing took place in the embrace of prophethood, and her life is a clear manifestation of faith, piety, knowledge, patience, chastity, familial responsibility, and steadfastness upon truth. Women must keep the character of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) before their eyes at every stage of life — from personal and family matters to social affairs. By following her teachings and practical conduct, it will be possible to raise righteous generations who play an effective role in promoting moral values and building a better, more dignified, and more balanced society.

In conclusion, Naqvi noted that honoring the memory of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) and keeping her message alive is not merely about expressing devotion and love, but lies in setting in motion the practical path of her pure conduct, character, and lofty teachings in everyday life.
